Women's History Month 2023

Women’s History Month 2023

Serene yet empowering, our visual direction pairs linework with hazy textures and surreal scenes to uplift and nourish curiosity. For Women’s History Month 2023, put together by Starbucks’ Women’s Impact Network, I wanted to highlight those moments of self reflection, and being an open space for people to explore definitions of success and support– feeling not alone but also honoring the strength in self.

Visuals are sophisticated and modern, but there’s also a sense of playful openness with color pairings and fluid patterns. Humanity is a key part of the Starbucks brand, so I’ve included touches of humanity and nature within the illustration. The team’s intention was to capture moments of cosmically introspective self reflection, moments of community, and a connection to growth & coffee.

This year’s Women’s History Month design brings individual vignettes side-by-side to make a statement – that together, our definitions hold even more power. The illustrations stride out of clear frames to represent a person’s choice to break away from expectation and forge their own path.

Siren

A rich tribute to an iconic symbol, the siren looks on with an understanding of her own power. The coffee plants in her hair represent her constant growth and nurturing nature. Her crown reaches quietly out of the frame to say she is more than her title. She who braves the uncharted waters, unafraid of any storm.

Coffee Plant

Along with prosperity, the coffee plant reminds us that we must begin somewhere. Our brand and our work is harvested from it in every way. To achieve a bloom, we must be patient and caring. Reflective of how we carry ourselves, we must know the circumstances and our capacity to do the work.

Night and Day

Defining who we are does not occur in a day. It is a commitment in the morning to put our honest selves forward and the evening to recognize our efforts. The two portraits of the sky demonstrate how this journey is ongoing.

Hands Together

Women’s Impact Network is a community, a support network our partners can rely on and feel inspired by. We hold each other in our vulnerabilities and celebrate each other’s successes, no matter what they look like. When one of us wins, we all win.
